Rays’ Hellickson Leads Rays To Win In Debut; Tampa Now Tied With Yankees For First

Hellickson (1-0), recalled from Triple-A Durham to make a spot start for a Rays rotation that had thrown the same five starters all season, yielded three hits and two runs, striking out six and walking two in seven impressive frames.

Kubel got a run back in the sixth by sending a first-pitch offering over the right-field fence for his 13th homer of the season.

Jeremy Hellickson had a solid debut in his first outing for the Tampa Bay Rays. Seen as one of the Rays’ better prospects, Hellickson allowed two runs on three hits over seven innings.

Hellickson did walk two and give up a home run to Jason Kubel, but also struck out six.
