Greg Paulus' nascent professional sports career is over. Now begins his nascent coaching career. After an abortive effort to make the Saints' roster as Drew Bree's caddy back in May, Paulus has apparently landed a new gig: assistant basketball coach, per Fox Sports' Jeff Goodman.
Greg Paulus Hired As Navy Assistant Basketball Coach
Paulus will, in a manner, be following in the footsteps of his mentor, Coach Krzyzewski. Indeed, Coach K got his start as a head coach at another of the service academies -- Army -- after a brief stint as an assistant at his mentor Bob Knight’s program at Indiana (Krzyzewski played for Knight at Army).
Paulus will become the second recent, and reviled, Duke point guard to join the coaching ranks, after longtime fan nemesis Steve Wojciechowski came on as an assistant at Duke a few years ago. Both were the objects of intense fan ridicule for their flopping tenacity on the defensive end and seemingly over-the-top, rah-rah spirit.
Presumably Navy’s players will now be well-versed in the art of taking a charge.
