Serena Williams will miss the 2010 U.S. Open due to her foot injury, according to ESPN (via SI’s Richard Deitsch).
Serena Williams Withdraws From 2010 U.S. Open Due To Foot Injury
Williams originally hurt herself in mid-July after stepping on a piece of glass at a restaurant. Williams withdrew from the World Team Tennis exhibitions she was scheduled to play in, before going in for surgery on her foot shortly thereafter. She was considered questionable for the U.S. Open, which starts on August 30, before pulling out on Friday.
Williams is a three-time champ at Flushing Meadows, and was coming off another Wimbledon title this past July before her unfortunate injury.
