Thursday’s Roto Roundup: Paul Konerko Goes 5-5
Mat Latos won his 13th game, throwing 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and striking out 10. I was chatting with a fellow UBA league owner today about our offseason trade which landed me Latos and a minor league pick for Ricky Nolasco. I recall actually pondering this deal for about a week before pulling the trigger. Who could have predicted the season Latos is having? I sure couldn't. What I want to know is who is the 2011 Mat Latos??
Phil Hughes won his 15th game of the season on Thursday. Another breakout pitcher here. Hughes gave up 2 runs on 4 hits in 6 innings of work, striking out 6. His ERA sits at 3.90, but he has a solid 113-38 K/BB ratio. Geesh, can Hughes win 20 games this season?
Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano went 3-5 with 3 runs scored, 3 RBI and his 24th HR. Cano is hitting .325-.387-.566 with 24 HRs and 78 RBIs on the season. He is on pace for a 32-105 season, which puts him in my Top 10 for 2011. I guess he replaces another Yankee Alex Rodriguez.
Am I the only one who thinks Jason Heyward is out of the NL Rookie of the Year race? He is hitting .256-.368-.433 with 12 HRs, 53 RBIs and 9 SBs for the season. Those stats aren't so bad, but guys like Mike Stanton and Buster Posey may have passed him in the ROY race. With that said, I could see a 25-90-20 season out of him in 2011. (Yes, I own him in 2 keeper leagues, so I am talking my book!!).
Jonathan Sanchez pitched a gem in Philadelphia on Thursday night, throwing 8 innings and giving up just one run on 2 hits, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Sanchez is only 9-8 on the season but has a very respectable 3.47 ERA.
