Andy Murray succumbed to the heat, exhaustion -- and Mardy Fish -- in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Cincinnati Masters.
Mardy Fish Upsets No. 4 Andy Murray In Three Sets To Reach Semifinals Of 2010 Cincinnati Masters
Playing his eighth match in ten days after capturing the Toronto title last week, Murray fell in three sets to the unranked American, 6-7 (7), 6-1, 7-6 (5). Murray fought off a pair of set points during the first set tiebreaker, before falling apart in the second set as Fish jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Murray complained of dizziness due to the heat and applied ice to his knee, before Fish closed out the second set.
Murray rebounded in the decisive third set, but neither player was able to break. Fish erased a 4-2 deficit in the tiebreaker, in part due to a successful challenge, before finishing off Murray.
Fish has now beaten Murray their last three meetings, and became the first unranked player to reach the semifinals of the Cincinnati Masters since Lleyton Hewitt in 2007. Fish will meet the winner of the Andy Roddick-Novak Djokovic match in the semifinals.
