I finally got my release from SF... Y'all know what I'm about to do!!!!!!!
Jay Hieron Released From Strikeforce
It only makes sense that “what he’s about to do” is go to the UFC. Hieron has been maybe the most poorly treated fighter on the Strikeforce roster given that he is ranked #14 in the world at welterweight. Hieron was scheduled to fight Nick Diaz in his first Strikeforce bout but Diaz chose not to show up for drug tests causing a replacement fight with Jesse Taylor to be made. That bout was moved off the main card and onto the untelevised prelims, surely costing him a significant amount of sponsor money. His next bout was with Joe Riggs and again didn’t make the televised portion of the card, instead being aired on a rather shoddy online stream.
So Strikeforce brought in a guy who was 7-1 since 2007, promised him a title shot against Nick Diaz and instead put him on prelim spots, never giving him his shot at Diaz. It’s no wonder that Hieron is so excited to get his release from a promotion that has absolutely no interest in promoting a talented and exciting fighter.
Hieron is now 9-1 in his last 10 bouts. He does have some UFC experience having lost to Georges St. Pierre back in 2004 and losing on a cut stoppage to Jonathan Goulet in 2005. Hieron is clearly a better fighter now and fully deserves another crack at the big time.
