Dwight Dasher, speedy Middle Tennessee quarterback and last season’s 7th-ranked player nationally in total offense, has two alleged problems. The first is that he allegedly borrowed $1500 dollars from an elderly hospital-bound veteran to fund his poker habit and neglected to repay that sum. The second is that he allegedly stole checks from a teammate to serve as collateral. (And then he got caught, so make that three problems.)
MTSU Quarterback Under Investigation For Poker-Related Malfeasance
Donnell said Dasher still owes him $1,500 for the loan for gambling. But Donnell said he never contacted police about the unpaid loan. “I’m no snitch,” he said.

“(Dasher) said to me, ‘Will you put me in a (poker) game? I play real good,’” Donnell said. “So (Dasher) takes $300 because I said, ‘I’ll let you have $300 and we will split the winnings.’
“Well, he comes back 45 minutes later and said he played in a game in Murfreesboro and lost it. You got me? He lost it. L-O-S-T.”
My, that’s a spicy mark.
Dasher’s status for the entire season is obviously questionable at this point, in the absence (so far) of formal charges, so it’s business as usual for the Blue Raiders, right, Coach?
Head coach Rick Stockstill said that the investigation is “not a distraction within the team.”Of course. I mean, why would it be? Dasher was only the fulcrum of last year’s Sun Belt-besting offense and the team’s best hope for a 2010 conference crown. If nothing else, I find it hard to believe he’s not at least being mercilessly taunted for his lack of card-sharking prowess in the locker room.
