Butler 23rd at “Tricky Triangle”

Brett Butler entered the Pocono Mountains 125 with a little spring in his step and walked out just the same. The Georgia native had been steadily inching closer to the Top 15 in Championship points and felt his chances of gaining more ground at Pocono would be in his favor.

Butler qualified the #47 Fuel Doctor USA Chevy in the 30th position during NASCAR’s First, multi-truck qualifying system. During qualifying, up to three trucks were on the track at the same time, much like road course qualifying.

“Qualifying was neat. It cut the time down a lot as far as how long it lasts. No one ever got close enough to draft which makes everything equal. I think on larger tracks, this might be something we see in the future,” Butler stated.

When the green flag dropped on the Inaugural Pocono Mountains 125, Butler knew he didn’t have much time. The 50 lap race does not allow much time to be strategic but rather a shootout.

“We picked up some spots quickly but once the trucks got spread out, it is hard to run anyone down,” stated Butler. “We ended up going a lap down but we hung in there waiting for a caution.”

Brett continued to press towards the front and when a caution came out on lap 45, it pulled the entire group back together for one last time and Brett got the “Aarons Lucky Dog Award” to get back on the lead lap.

“These restarts are crazy. Turn one becomes a traffic jam at 180mph and no one wants to give an inch. It is fun, but your eyes are glued to the 3 and 4 wide trucks in front of you and what might happen!”

When the checkered flag waved, Butler took his Fuel Doctor USA Chevy home in the 23rd position.

“We maintained our position in the standings and closed in a few more points on some of the leaders. We will go to Nashville now and look to race well. Our first outing was not very good when we blew a tire on the first lap and we limped around all day with fiberglass all over the inside of the truck. I know we can get it done and we now start returning to tracks where I can show what I learned the first time!” Butler commented.
