Michigan State’s Chris Allen Removed From Team, Will Not Return For Senior Season

Michigan State guard Chris Allen will not return to the team for his senior season, according to CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish.

Allen was notably absent during the team's second consecutive run to the Final Four, after being suspended from the team during the Big Ten tourney for "not being a good teammate." Head coach Tom Izzo gave Allen a set of conditions to meet to rejoin the team, which Allen apparently did not meet. Izzo issued the following statement Tuesday night, per the Detroit-Free Press:

It’s been no secret that Chris Allen’s been in a tenuous position since spring. There were multiple obligations that Chris had to meet in order to return for his senior season. While he did make progress through the summer, he has failed to meet all the obligations and will not be a part of our program this fall.

Allen will have to sit out a season if he transfers to another Division I program. While dismissing Allen hurts the Spartans’ depth, the loss is certainly cushioned give that Michigan State essentially return their entire roster from last year’s tournament run, as well as bringing in a top five recruiting class.

The 6-foot-3 Allen averaged 8.2 points on 40 per cent three-point shooting for the Spartans last season.
