7500 To Holte: Aston Villa 1-0 Everton, Match Recap
Believe it or not, Aston Villa sits fourth in the Premier League. I guess 6-0 losses don’t carry extra penalties, because after Villa’s 1-0 win over Everton, Kevin MacDonald’s charge is right behind The Big Three®.
Over at 7500 to Holte, SB Nation’s Aston Villa blog, Aaron Campeau had the summary of Villa’s needed win:
The key to this game for Villa was neutralizing Mikel Arteta, and for the vast majority of the day they did just that. Nigel Reo-Coker may have had some frustrating touches in the attack, but as the destroyer (credit to Gareth for that one) he was incredible. He’s not an especially refined footballer in a technical sense, but he was given free reign today to do what it is that he does best, and it was magnificent. Reo-Coker kept Arteta in check throughout the afternoon and managed to thoroughly disrupt Everton’s ability to control possession in the midfield. He couldn’t buy time on the pitch in the last days of Martin O’Neill, but on Sunday, he was vital.
