In the interest of triaging the transfer news, I would have otherwise skipped over this one until I saw the buzz (a concise way of saying I refreshed Twitter). It was palpable, my friends, and upon reflection, it all makes sense:
Loan: Wigan Lands Manchester United Midfielder Cleverley
↵When you have a 21-year-old that has yet to make a league appearance loaned to a probable relegation battler, it’s worth a tweet. If not more.
↵Tom Cleverley, everybody, is that 21-year-old midfielder. He’s looked good for United in preseason and will now get to a chance at playing time with Wigan, but if this guy’s last name with James, would we be talking about him?
↵Perhaps. He hasn’t played a match in league for United, but he has featured for England at the U21 level. Perhaps that more than his club or his last name has sparked the murmuring. Perhaps his 11 Championship goals last year should make me less skeptical.
↵Or perhaps I’ve learned to never underestimate an Englishman’s esteem for a pun.
