It's a slow evening in the world of professional sporting spectacles, so rather than twiddle our thumbs while breathlessly awaiting the next Favre announcement to come down the pike, we'd like to take a moment and hold forth on an issue near and dear to us: the paucity of available mascot blood.

↵The waiting list for mascot blood transfusions is currently at... zero, but it could be much, much longer. Perilously long. Why? Because before today, when Mr. Met took part in New York Blood Center’s annual Blood Drive at Citi Field, no mascot had ever previously bothered to donate.The culture of mascots is not one that fosters solidarity, but that needn’t be the case.
↵So please, encourage your team’s mascot to donate blood. The life they save might even be hilarious.
