2010 Bridgestone Invitational, First Round: Bubba Watson Leads, Phil Mickelson Tied For Second, Tiger Woods Struggling

With the afternoon groups finishing up their rounds at the first round of the 2010 Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club, Bubba Watson has a two-shot lead. Watson fired a 6-under 64 that included seven birdies and a single bogey, to open up a two shot gap on the trio of Phil Mickelson, Kenny Perry and Adam Scott.

Mickelson recorded six birdies on the day, including a bogey-free front nine, before giving a pair of shots back to finish at 4-under with Perry and Scott. Chad Campbell and Sean O’Hair were a shot back at 3-under, with notables Steve Stricker and Rory McIlroy in the hunt at 2-under.

Meanwhile, noted golf enthusiast Tiger Woods is in the process of having his worst round since returning to golf back in April. Woods is currently 5-over through 16 holes; a disastrous round that has tied for third to last. Woods got off to an inauspicious start with back-to-back bogeys, and never recovered: he got his only birdie of the day on the sixth hole, and aside from that it’s only been bogeys (four more to be exact) and pars for Woods.
