Week 1 Fantasy Football Scouting Reports: Team Edition

Every week, we turn to SB Nation’s NFL team bloggers to get some knowledge about fantasy players from a team perspective. No one knows an NFL team like these guys, so believe what they say and you’ll have a successful Week 1 in fantasy football. And if you don’t, we’ll refund your subscription!

We'll start with that fantasy football powerhouse...the Cleveland Browns? From Dawgs By Nature:

Quarterback Jake Delhomme was impressive during the preseason for the Cleveland Browns, but until he proves something during the regular season, you'd have to be pretty desperate to start Delhomme in Week 1, even if it is against the Buccaneers.

At the receiver position, the Browns have a lot of weapons but they are all on the same level in terms of production. That means that Mohamed Massaquoi might catch a touchdown one week, Chansi Stuckey might catch one the following week, Peyton Hillis might catch one the week after that, and so on. There really isn't "one guy" at the receiver position who is a solid start, unless something changes during the regular season. If you failed to draft a tight end though, Ben Watson isn't a bad pickup for this week.

The best fantasy football player on the Browns this week is running back Jerome Harrison. With backup Montario Hardesty going down with a season-ending injury, Harrison will receive a bulk of the carries against a run defense that struggled last year. Backup Peyton Hillis might be a threat near the goal line, but there should be better options available than him.

The Browns DST is an average start this week since they are facing the Buccaneers. With Joshua Cribbs returning kicks and punts, you always have the threat of scoring a touchdown on special teams.

At kicker, Phil Dawson is a great spot start because the Browns moved the ball very well in the preseason, but often scored touchdowns because they went for it on fourth down. They will probably choose field goals instead during the regular season, and Dawson is as accurate as they come. He also has good leg strength, drilling a 58-yarder in the preseason and missing another 58-yarder wide left.
