With the first day in the books at the Traverse City Prospect tournament, here are the results.
Traverse City Tournament: Day One Results
Detroit vs. Dallas - Detroit wins 6-1.
The home team in this tournament looked impressive with Detroit’s Travis Ehrhardt scoring two goals in the win. Detroit pretty much dominated the pace of play outshooting Dallas 38-18.
For the Detroit perspective, here is what Detroit writer George Malik had to say about who he thought Detroit’s best player was:
Up front, I thought the best player by far was Landon Ferraro, who had no points and finished even, because he displayed a superb two-way game, expertly helming the rush, dumping the puck deep for his wingers, grinding it out on the cycle and going to the net with authority, never mind winning faceoff after faceoff, working expertly with his partner in crime, front-toothless Mitchell Callahan, a mini-mite and ball of energy who’d go to the net, get cross-checked into the net or in the head, and pop right back up to get ready for the next faceoff, and bam, he’d go right to the net or tangle with opposing forwards along the boards, both giving and taking hits while bouncing around like a pinball and roaring in on the forecheck with superb speed.
For the Dallas perspective, here is what Dallas goalie Jack Campbell had to say about the game:
“I’m disappointed. I let my nerves get the best of me too often tonight and I kind of let the team down,” Campbell, the Stars 1st round pick (11th overall) in this summer’s draft, said after the game. “I am looking forward to that next start and hopefully helping the guys out the best I can.”
Tampa Bay vs. St. Louis - St. Louis wins 4-2
Both St. Louis and Tampa had two goal scorers in the game with Brett Connelly scoring the only two goals for Tampa while Brett Sonne scored twice for the St. Louis Blues.
New York Rangers vs. Columbus - Rangers win 5-4
Tomas Kubalik from the Blue Jackets and Evgeny Grachev from the Rangers each scored twice while the Rangers had far more powerplay chances, 7 compared to the Blue Jackets 2.
Blue Jackets blogger En4cer45 had this recap while SNY Rangers blog has the post game recap from the Rangers standpoint.
Minnesota vs. Carolina - Minnesota wins 2-1
Jared Palmer had two assists while Tyler Johnson and Joel Broda each scored for the Wild. The Wild website has a great recap including this nugget from Assistant GM Brent Flahr about the game:
“We bent but we didn’t break,” said Assistant General Manager Brent Flahr, “We know it can be a lot better and we showed that we were a really good team in the first period. If we play like that we can have a lot of success here.”
