Credit Wes Welker of the New England Patriots with scoring the first touchdown of the first Sunday of the 2010 NFL season. Of course it was Welker, right?
The Patriots’ Wes Welker Scores The First Touchdown Of The Day
↵The receiver -- both appreciated and mocked for his grittiness --suffered a nasty knee injury during a playoff game this past January and had his ACL repaired in February. Initially expected to miss at least a part of the regular season, Welker instead made it back for the preseason.
↵What makes Welker’s touchdown reception perhaps even more remarkable as a comeback-capper is that it came from a quarterback, Tom Brady, who was in a nasty car accident just a few days ago.
↵And from the looks of things early this afternoon, that Patriots offense is going to be pretty formidable this season. Playing host to the Bengals, who added Terrell Owens and received a bit more pub regarding its offense this summer, New England added a field goal to take a 10-0 lead before I could finish writing this post. And they’re about to score again, so let me hit “publish” before I have to update this again.
↵Update: Here’s an NFL.com link to the video of Wes Welker’s touchdown.
