After suffering a significant knee injury at the end of the 2009 season, Welker had made an impressive recovery to score the first touchdown of the Patriots season. Tom Brady hit Welker for a nine-yard score.
Stephen Gostkowski added a 32-yard field goal to give the Patriots a 10-0 lead.
