Matches For The Last Day Of The World Soccer Weekend

It’s becoming a four day weekend in world soccer. While it’s been years since a handful of leagues started utilizing Friday nights to bring attention to their leagues, now the world’s biggest leagues are bringing a Monday Night Football aspect to their fixture lists. England and Spain have regular matches on Monday, complementing a number of overlooked leagues who habitually do the same.

Some of these games will have already started by the time this post hits the interwebs, but here’s a reminder - Monday is the last day of the world’s soccer weekend:

Chile: Universidad de Chile could leap Universidad Catholica, who won 2-0 on Friday, with a win at Santiago Morning. Relegation-embattled Santiago Morning, that is.

Denmark: New Armenian international Yura Movsisyan and Randers are at Midtjylland. Movsisyan has scored as I type.

Egypt: Zamalek, off to an uncharacteristically even-keel start, hosts El Gounah, a match that should allow the White Knights to get right their season’s start.

England: Aston Villa’s 6-0 loss at Newcastle casts a shadow over their season’s first month, but with a win at Stoke today, they would jump into third place.

Israel: Maccabi Haifa looks to continue their perfect start, travelling to Hapoel Be’er Sheva for their season’s third match. A win will put them atop the league, joining Hapoel Haifa.

Portugal: Vitoria Setuval hops Beira-Mar in a rather uninspiring match. Both clubs come into the game with 1-1-1 records.

Qatar: The Qatari Stars league has started, with Al Arabi’s match against Umm Salal highlighting today’s two-match set. The rest of the league will open their season between now and Wednesday.

Romania: Two slow starters - Panduri Targu KJiu and Universitatea Craviova - are playing in Pitseti, with Pandurii having already scored twice in the first 23 minutes.

Spain: Almeria, a likely relegation battler, hosts Real Sociedad, last year’s champions in the Segunda.

Sweden: IFK Góteborg has a goal from Hannes Stiller, putting themselves up 1-0 over GAIS. Kalmer is also hosting Brommapojharna.

Turkey: Trabzonspor has a change to jump into second place, should they take care of business against visiting Sivasspor.
