Not surprisingly, there was no change at the top of the Associated Press Top 25 College Football Poll. But there were some fairly significant shakeups outside of the top four teams, most notably with the team that suffered the marquee upset of the season.
Week 3 AP Poll: Hokies Drop Completely Out Of Top 25 As Oregon Cracks Top 5
Virginia Tech, which on Saturday became just the second ranked team ever to lose to a Division I-AA program when the Hokies were upset by James Madison, slipped all the way out of the poll, from 13th last week to not receiving a vote. Virginia Tech didn’t even receive a vote; James Madison, meanwhile, picked up 11 votes in the AP poll, and they’re not even in the same division.
Other big movers in the poll included:
- Oregon, which cracked the top five after its win over Tennessee.
- South Carolina, which jumped from 24th to 13th after its win over Georgia.
- Stanford, which topped UCLA and moved from 25th to 19th.
- And four new teams entered the rankings: Oregon State, Arizona, Houston and Michigan.
Alabama, the defending national champion, maintained its top spot in the poll, and the top four remained unchanged from last week.
