Week 1 Fantasy Football Injuries

So you spent the past few weeks creating the perfect fantasy football roster. You did the research before your draft, made all the right picks, then scoured the waiver wire over the past week to find the hidden gems. It’s all going according to plan, right? Wrong. Injuries can strike at any time and ruin the best laid plans. Here’s a round-up of Week 1 NFL injuries that could affect fantasy rosters.

First up, Lions QB Matthew Stafford, who was injured on a sack by Julius Peppers. SB Nation's NFL page reports via PFT:

The Lions are calling it a right shoulder injury and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the “early word out of the Detroit organization” is that Stafford could miss anywhere from 2-3 weeks at a minimum to 4-6 weeks at a maximum.

Not good news for owners of Stafford, but also bad news for owners of Calvin Johnson.

Another QB knocked out of action by a hard hit was Kevin Kolb of the Eagles. The report on him initially was some kind of jaw injury, but that's been revised to include a concussion. With the NFL's new stringent rules about concussions, this bears watching. On the flip-side of the injury was Michael Vick's insertion into the game. Vick was able to produce, so keep an eye on that situation. If it lingers, Vick could become a viable fantasy option. The Eagles have potentially lost FB Leonard Weaver for the year with an ACL tear, this will downgrade their running game effectiveness going forward.

The Packers and Eagles game was a physical one, with the Eagles suffering the injuries noted above. But the Packers didn't escape untouched, RB Ryan Grant left the game early with an ankle sprain and looks to be questionable for next week.

On defense, if you have the Colts, you may have to downgrade them. It appears that injury-plagued super-safety Bob Sanders has a torn bicep and could be done for the season.

Panthers QB Matt Moore left the game against the Giants with a concussion and could potentially miss Week 2. Jimmy Claussen stepped in for Moore and would be his replacement next week. Moore was having a very poor game before the injury.

A concussion knocked another player out of a game in Week 1, Giants TE Kevin Boss. Keep an eye on his status for Week 2.

Cardinals receiver Early Doucet had to be pulled form his Week 1 game with a groin injury. He was productive early before the injury, monitor his status for Week 2.
