Texas Vs. Texas Tech: John Chiles Out For Longhorns

Our favorite phrase in shorthand sportswriting has to be “out with a groin,” when rightly it should be “out without a groin.” And speaking of groins, senior Texas receiver John Chiles only has one that isn’t injured, and will sit out Saturday’s game against Texas Tech. Chiles has had five catches for 68 yards in two games with the Longhorns in 2010.

Texas Vs. Texas Tech: Longhorns Still Chasing That Run

SB Nation’s Texas and Texas Tech communities swap interviews in anticipation of Saturday’s rivalry match in Lubbock. Next up: Double-T Nation asks after Texas’ elusive ground game:

By most accounts the Texas offense has been okay thus far and the meme for the offseason was that the Longhorns wanted to emphasize the run more. Two games into the season, what’s your assessment of the running backs and more importantly, how’s the offensive line shaping up?

PB: I’ll get to the backs and linemen in a moment, but there’s a third element to the equation: the scheme and approach. I mean, if “emphasizing the run more” turned out to mean running the same offense as last year, only with more runs, it wouldn’t much matter whether the backs and linemen were all great.

Texas is indeed interested in running the ball more this season, but it’s encouragingly clear that the interest is, above all else, in getting something meaningful out of it. As most of us expected, it hasn’t been a totally smooth transition, but the approach is improved, and that’s a good, much welcomed, start.

No. 6 Texas Vs. Texas Tech: Longhorns Head To Grudge Match In Lubbock

Texas is 2-0 on the young season, having put up identical 34 spots in wins over Rice and Wyoming. As a result, the Longhorns have won 32 of their last 35 games in the month of September, demonstrating their ability to get off to a fast start year in and year out.

As for Tommy Tuberville’s Red Raiders, they too are undefeated after two games, topping both SMU (35-27) and New Mexico (52-17). Tuberville owns a record of 112-60 in 15 seasons as a head coach, and he will be celebrating his 56th birthday this Saturday.
