At the ripe of age of 36, Hideki Matsui isn’t exactly going to obliterate you with his speed on the basepaths. Then again, that’s been the case ever since he arrived in the U.S. from Japan in 2003.
Hideki Matsui Slowly Legs Out Lucrative Triple
↵That he’s a slot-footed mastodon must be of great amusement to his Angels teammates, because apparently he and Torii Hunter had a $5,000 bet going that Matsui would not get a single triple all season. Except - darn the luck- he hit for one on Wednesday. Cue Hunter grousing:
↵I was like, “What the ...? Ah, hell no.” I’m not talking to Matsui anymore. I saw him running the bases. He was making all kinds of faces, trying to get me. I didn’t realize it was a triple until I got to the dugout then everybody let me know.↵Irony alert: Torii Hunter has yet himself to hit for a triple this season. Sounds like a good double or nothing angle to keep the remainder of the regular season interesting. Whoop. What I meant to say in an overly solemn and deadpan manner is that gambling has no place in the national pastime. No turpitude on my watch.
