I am back at it after a trip to San Antonio this week. There was alot going on today with the news that Joe Torre will be stepping down as the Dodgers manager at season end. I am sure he will get a job fairly quickly, as he did not say he was retiring.
Friday’s Roto Roundup: Shin-Soo Choo Goes Yard 3 Times
Indians outfielder Shin Soo Choo went 4-5 with 3 runs scored, 3 HRs and 7 RBIs on Friday. Choo is hitting .291-.391-.471 with 19 HRs, 79 RBIs and 18 SBs in 24 attempts. He is well on his way to another 20-20 season in 2010.
Cardinals catcher went 4-4 with 5 RBIs on Friday. Molina has hit 6 HRs and driven in 62 for the season. The 62 RBIs are a career high for Molina, yet he has seen his BA drop to .264 this season, his lowest since 2006.
Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez went 2-5 with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs on Friday. His 3-run HR in the 9th proved to be the game winner. For the season, A-Rod is hitting .271-.332-.502 with 25 HRs and 111 RBIs. The 25 HRs are his lowest HR total since 1997. 1997!! It appears the hip injury could continue to zap A-Rod of his 40 HR power going forward.
Braves rookie outfielder Jason Heyward went 2-5 with a HR and 3 RBIs on Friday night, and is now hitting .288-.403-.483 with 18 HRs and 71 RBIs. He is reaffirming his NL rookie of the year leadership. I was chatting with a fellow keeper league owner today and he stated he could see Heyward being a late first round/early second round pick in NL-only leagues in 2011. I am not sure i agree, but Heyward could break out with a healthy season in 2011.
Red Sox catcher Victor Martinez went 2-5 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs on Friday, and is hitting .291-.338-.476 with 17 HRs and 71 RBIs in 443 at bats this season. I am curious where VMart will be rank in the catcher rankings heading into the 2011 season. I could see guys like Buster Posey and Carlos Santana, if healthy, ranked ahead of him next year.
Cubs starter Ryan Dempster is quietly having a very good season after winning his 14th game on Friday. Dempster shutout the Marlins for 7 innings, giving up just 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. His ERA of 3.50 is solid, as are his 190 strikeouts in 200 innings this season.
Astros starter Wandy Rodriguez held the Reds to 3 runs on 3 hits in 6 innings, but walked 6 and struck out 10 in a no-decision on Friday. Wandy-Rod has struck out 10 batters in 3 of his last 6 starts, and has struck out 78 batters in 68 innings since July 31st.
