After a scoreless first quarter dominated by the New England Patriots, Tom Brady has connected with Wes Welker on a six-yard touchdown pass to give the Pats a 7-0 lead over the New York Jets in the second quarter.
NFL Week 2, Patriots Vs. Jets: Brady, Welker Give Pats 7-0 Lead
The Jets have run just three offensive plays to this point in the game; Mark Sanchez has thrown two incomplete passes – including a tipped throw that was very nearly intercepted by safety Patrick Chung – and Shonn Greene has logged a five-yard run. The Pats, meanwhile, have held the ball for all but 62 seconds of the game.
Welker’s score came after the slot receiver left the field following a vicious – and possibly intentional – hit to the head by Jets safety Eric Smith. Welker walked off the field of his own accord and appeared fine on the sidelines.
