Week 2 NFL Scores And Results: Gates, Chargers Thump Jaguars, Lose Matthews

Working on a short week following their Monday Night Football loss to the Chiefs, the San Diego Chargers rebounded nicely in their home opener, throttling the Jacksonville Jaguars 38-13 to even their record at 1-1.

Philip Rivers, who had no reason to throw a temper tantrums on the field today, found Antonio Gates for two touchdowns in the victory. In all, Rivers threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns, and Mike Tolbert added two touchdowns and 95 total yards. Tolbert came on in relief of rookie running back Ryan Matthews, who was carted off the field with an apparent knee injury in the first half. Matthews would later jog back onto the field in full uniform, but did not return to the game.

Jaguars quarterback David Garrard threw four interceptions in defeat, and the Chargers bottled up Maurice Jones-Drew, holding the star running back to 31 rushing yards on 12 attempts. Antoine Cason recorded two interceptions (Brandon Siler and Kevin Burnett got the others), and the Chargers sacked Garrard twice and recovered two fumbles.
