Redskins Players Unanimously Vote To Decertify Union

The Washington Redskins players voted on Tuesday to give the NFLPA the authority to decertify the union, according to the Washington Post. This comes in the same meeting where the players voted Vonnie Holliday their new union representative.

Holliday talked briefly about the importance of the steps they’re taking as a union.

“It is not in the background. Guys are very concerned,” he continued. “For the first time since I’ve been in the NFL these 13 years, guys are involved in the meetings, they’re asking questions, they’re paying attention, they want to know what’s going on. And they’re asking good questions. They want to be informed.”

Decertifying basically gives the players the chance to sue the league when they’re locked out at the end of the current CBA. More and more teams are voting on the procedural move in case the NFLPA needs to use it next year.
