Practice is supposed to make perfection, not damage a club's regular season potential. The New York Islanders will be forced to survive six months without their premier defenseman Mark Streit, who has a torn labrum and rotator cuff in his left shoulder.
Islanders Rearguard Mark Streit Injured, Unavailable For Six Months
The Swiss dynamo collided with Matt Moulson yesterday during a team scrimmage and tumbled into the boards. Although he is seeking a second opinion on the nature of the damage done, surgery in all likelihood will be necessary and there aren't any free agent blue liners who can be acquired to comfortably replace all of the duties Streit undertakes.
A terrific all-around performer, Streit balances monstrous minutes on special teams and even strength, as he was third on the team in production last season with 49 points. Inadvertently, Moulson just created a larger obstacle between Long Island and the playoffs, a destination that was already an alarming task for the organization.
