United States Named 20-Man Squad For Colombia, Poland Friendlies

Bob Bradley has named the 20 United States Men's National Team players who will take part in October's friendlies against Poland and Colombia, with three players primed to make their first senior appearances.

Jermaine Jones has been called-up before, having pulled-out of the August friendly against Brazil to stay in Germany and prepare for his club season with Schalke 04. Jones had been coming-off a season ruined by a shin injury, but back playing for Schalke, the Germany-cum-United States player is set to make his debut.

Brek Shea, having featured prominently in recent years at the youth level, is now ready to get capped in the senior national team. Playing for FC Dallas of Major League Soccer, the defender/attacker Shea has settled into a left wingers' role, scoring five goals in 22 matches.

The final of the potential debutant is one of the more surprise call-ups, with Aston Villa's Eric Lichaj still yet to make his league debut for his club. The 21-year-old fullback has been at Villa sine 2007 but may get his first cap before being called on in the Premier League.

Amongst the other surprise call-ups, former New England Revolution defender Michael Parkhurst has been brought-in. Parkhurst has eight caps but did not feature prominently in the States' World Cup qualifying. The Wake Forest alum has been plying his trade for Nordajselland in Denmark since leaving Major League Soccer two years ago.

Only two Major League Soccer players where called-in, with defender Heath Pearce joining FC Dallas teammate Brek Shea.

Thirteen of the squads 20 players were also selected to the team that represented the States in South Africa.

In goal, Tim Howard and Brad Guzan, Bob Bradley's customary pair, have been brought-up. Howard is that starting goalkeeper at Everton in England while Guzan backs-up former U.S. international Brad Friedel at Aston Villa.

In defense, captain Carlos Bocanegra, playing in France with Saint-Étienne, is joined by Oguchi Onyewu (Milan), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Parkhurst, Pearce, and Lichaj.

The midfield features Michael Bradley (Borussia Monchengladbach) along with World Cup teammates Maurice Edu (Glasgow Rangers), Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus), and Stuart Holden (Bolton). Alejandro Bedoya (Örebro) joins Jones and Shea in rounding out the midfield.

Up top, Jozy Altidore (Villareal) and Clint Dempsey (Fulham) are joined by Dempsey's club teammate, Eddie Johnson.

The United States’ next match is against Colombia on Friday, October 11.
