In a 2010 U.S. Open quarterfinals match that started late and ran later, she maintained her bubbly charm amid ghastly on-court conditions, defeating 5th-seeded Sam Stosur 6-4. 5-7, 6-3. (The evening’s intangibles award went to Stosur’s crisp purple Lacoste dress.) The ladies battled the weather at least as often as they battled each other; by the second set both players were displaying visible frustration with the windy stadium.
