The Dallas Mavericks have acquired Lamar Odom from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for a 2012 first round draft pick. Earlier this week, it had looked as if Odom would be sent to the New Orleans Hornets in a deal for Chris Paul.

He went on to say that he trusts Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak, but that it’s especially tough to swallow considered that Odom went to Dallas, who swept L.A. out of the playoffs last season.

The Lakers sent Odom, the reigning Sixth Man of the Year, to Dallas in exchange for an $8.9 million traded player exception and that pick, which was originally reported to be a 2012 selection. It could be, or the Mavericks could elect to instead trade it in any of the next six seasons. It’s also protected in the top 20, though Dallas hasn’t picked that high in years.

The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly pulled out of the three-team deal that would’ve netted them Chris Paul, instead opting to send one piece in the reported trade, Lamar Odom, to the Dallas Mavericks. Odom was all set to be dealt to the New Orleans Hornets as part of a three-team deal for Paul that also included the Houston Rockets. Instead, it appears Odom will be heading to Dallas, slotting into the Mavericks’ trade exception.
