Restricted free-agent guard Marcus Thornton has signed a five-year, $40 million deal to remain with the Sacramento Kings, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard. Thornton thrived after a midseason trade from the New Orleans Hornets, and the Kings have clearly made it a top priority to retain him.

The Sacramento Kings have re-signed guard Marcus Thornton to a five-year, $40 million deal, according to a report.
Thornton was acquired for Carl Landry at the NBA trade deadline and promptly averaged 21.3 points per game in the final 27 games of the season. He has always had scoring ability and is relatively efficient, but has struggled defensively, and the Hornets had trouble handing him a large role due to his lack of size. That said, few young guards have his kind of scoring ability, so it is not surprising he got that deal.
The Kings' backcourt is crowded, however, with Tyreke Evans, Jimmer Fredette and Thornton all fighting for minutes.
