2011 NFL Draft Results: Falcons Trade With Browns, Select WR Julio Jones

The Cleveland Browns have traded the sixth pick in the 2011 NFL draft to the Atlanta Falcons. With the pick, the Falcons selected Alabama WR Julio Jones.

The Falcons gave up their first, second and fourth round picks this year. They also gave up their 2012 first and fourth round picks.

Jones was one of the nation’s most celebrated recruits in high school, then performed at high level for most of his three years at Alabama. It’s nice when things work out like that.

A combination of many elite skills makes a Julio Jones scouting report sound like a love letter: his tall frame and surprising quickness to get position against defenders, his sure hands take care of most catches, and his speed isn’t shabby, either. Oh, and he can block. He racked up 179 catches in three years with the Crimson Tide, averaged almost 15 yards per reception, and hauled in 15 touchdowns. (He had two rushing touchdowns in 2010, too.)

The highlights from Jones’ career make the case that he’ll be a productive NFL wide receiver pretty easy. (Just don’t have the sound up.)

Check out Dawgs By Nature for more on Jones and how he fits with the Browns.
