The Minnesota Vikings tried to trade out of the 12th pick in the 2011 NFL draft but were unable to do so. With the pick, they decided on their quarterback of the future selecting Florida State QB Christian Ponder.
2011 NFL Draft Results: Christian Ponder Picked By Minnesota Vikings
There are some out there who feel Ponder will actually be the best quarterback in this draft class. He has great size at 6’3” and 228 pounds coming from a large school where he faced top competition. He’s a three-year starter so there’s plenty of tape on him and he completed over 60 percent of his passes the last two seasons at Florida State.
SB Nation interviewed Ponder this week and he said that, while it would be difficult, he's prepared to step in and play immediately. In Minnesota, he immediately becomes the future. The Vikings are moving past the Brett Favre era and Ponder will be given every opportunity to start the season right away.
