Complete NFL Draft 2011 First-Round Results: Jake Locker, Nick Fairley Among Biggest Surprises

The 2011 NFL Draft's confounding first round is in the books. It started off sensically enough, with Carolina, Denver, Buffalo and Cincinnati taking exactly who they'd been widely mocked -- Cam Newton, Von Miller, Marcell Dareus and A.J. Green respectively. The Cardinals picking up Patrick Peterson didn't likely blow too many minds either.

But then! The Atlanta Falcons traded a darn slew of picks to the Cleveland Browns for Julio Jones, and everything thus went completely off the rails. Aldon Smith went to San Francisco much earlier than expected, as did Jake Locker to Tennessee. The Jaguars followed with the second trade, dealing with Washington for Blaine Gabbert, continuing a QB run that concluded when Minnesota picked Christian Ponder.

Amid all the shuffle, one-time No. 1 pick projection Nick Fairley slid all the way to Detroit at No. 13, where he'll be paired with fellow monstrosity Ndamukong Suh. It was a record crop of defensive linemen overall, with 12 going in total -- and that excludes Da'Quan Bowers and Justin Houston, both of whom fell to round two. In all the ham, Baltimore even missed handing in a pick, causing a logjam.

Two other trades went down, with the Browns dealing with the Chiefs for Phil Taylor and the Pats picking up a haul from the Saints for Mark Ingram.

Round two picks up Friday at 6 pm ET. Here’s the complete list of round one picks:
