2011 NFL Draft Grades: Losers Include Raiders, Seahawks

The 2011 NFL draft is now complete with 32 teams selecting 254 players. Not all of those picks, however, were good ones. SB Nation’s Mocking The Draft has taken a look at every team’s draft and compiled a list of the winners and losers. Here is the list of 2011 NFL draft winners.

And for the losers, two teams stand out to me -- Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks.

The Raiders are...well, the Raiders. They draft based on speed.

Not much needs to be said here. The Raiders drafted speed as usual in Demarcus Van Dyke, Chimdi Chekwa and Taiwan Jones. Oh, Al Davis. The other pieces they added are nothing to get excited about.

That’s about right, though.

Another team that will find themselves branded as losers in the 2011 NFL draft is the Seattle Seahawks. They had what I thought was a very solid 2010 draft so that’s why this class is a little surprising.

If each of Seattle’s first two picks - offensive tackle James Carpenter and guard John Moffitt - were taken a round later each, this would be a great draft. The Seahawks didn’t take a lot of high potential players in this draft. Instead, they went with low-risk, low-impact players. It’s not a bad strategy, but the picks didn’t have value.

Interesting note: if Seattle hadn’t won the division in Week 17 last year, they’d be drafting 7th.

Check out Mocking The Draft for the complete list of winners and losers.
