Kelechi Osemele, NFL Draft 2012: Browns, Giants Could Be Interested In Offensive Lineman

Monstrous Iowa State lineman Kelechi Osemele has loads of potential, but his questionable work ethic has some NFL Draft pundits doubting him.

Opinions of Iowa State offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele seem to be a bit all over the place. Some outlets have him ranked as a fringe second-rounder, while SB Nation's latest 2012 NFL Mock Draft have him going at No. 25 to the New York Giants. In previous drafts, we've had him going to the Cleveland Browns. Mocking the Draft considers Osemele the No. 32 overall prospect.

Osemele has been plagued by some inconsistency that has people questioning his draft profile. That said, he’s 6-foot-5 and 335 pounds and has looked like a potential game-changer at various times. Here’s how Mocking the Draft described him:

Osemele is going to be a prospect that NFL scouts and teams love. He possesses great size and good athletic ability. His potential is through the roof which is what could facilitate a major jump up draft boards. He is a powerful player with the ability to pass protect and run block. His strong lower half allows him to anchor after contact and avoid being pushed into the pocket. Osemele has quick enough feet to reach the edge against most rushers. However, he doesn’t have elite foot speed which will likely mean a move to right tackle or guard. As a run blocker, Osemele possess the ideal size, strength, and explosion.

Draft analysts have compared him to Baltimore Ravens standout Michael Oher. Obviously, that would be way on the upside of his potential. There are concerns that, despite making 44 consecutive starts at Iowa State, he's got a questionable work ethic and that his weight is something NFL teams are going to have to closely watch.
