Michael Floyd, NFL Draft 2012: Jaguars, Panthers Both Seem To Be Interested

Michael Floyd is probably the second best wide receiver prospect in the 2012 NFL Draft, but some off-the-field issues may drive down his stock.

The 2012 NFL Draft seems to be looking pretty strong at wide receiver. Justin Blackmon is everyone's top prospect at the position, but Notre Dame's Michael Floyd is not that far behind. The 6-foot-3, 224-pounder definitely looks like a NFL wide receiver and he's coming off a pair of monster seasons.

The biggest question as to where he'll go is the relative value that NFL teams are placing on wide receivers. There's a chance he could go within the Top 10 picks, with the Washington Redskins, Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers are looking to be in the market for wide receivers.

Mocking the Draft sees Floyd, who made 100 catches and racked up 1,147 receiving yards in 2011, as the No. overall 14 prospect. In the latest SB Nation Mock Draft, we have him going at No. 7 to the Jaguars. What could hurt Floyd, though, is some off-the-field concerns as detailed by Mocking the Draft:

The trouble for Floyd is a slight lack of natural abilities and off-the-field concerns. As an athlete, Floyd doesn't have the speed or leaping ability seen in many top wide receivers. Floyd has been suspended by indefinitely after getting a DUI, his third alcohol-related offense at Notre Dame. Head coach Brian Kelly has said that if Floyd has another slip-up, he'll be kicked off the team.

On the plus side, Floyd has been performing at a relatively high level for four years now. He scored at least seven touchdowns and never went below 44 catches for 700 receiving yards in any season. He finished particularly strong, racking up nearly 2,200 receiving yards and scoring 22 touchdowns in his final two seasons.
