Peter Konz, NFL Draft 2012: Versatile Lineman Could Go To Chicago Bears

Wisconsin’s Peter Konz would be one of the top interior lineman in the 2012 NFL Draft if he chooses to come out early.

Interior linemen are probably the least sexy of any positions in the NFL Draft. Even offensive tackles are more high profile. But NFL scouts know just how important these unloved giants can be, which is why no one should be shocked to see Wisconsin center Peter Konz picked in the first round, assuming he declares for the draft.

Aside from Stanford's David DeCastro, no other interior lineman is thought of so highly. Adding to Konz's draftability is the kind of versatility that should allow him to play elsewhere on the offensive line. Mocking the Draft considers Konz to be the 17th best draft prospect and said this about him:

He’s a do-it-all center who can play with strength and athleticism. Wisconsin likes to use Konz on the move in the run game and he’s deceptively agile for a big player. It may be a sign of junior status, but one area where Konz needs to get better is making the line calls. Get better there and Konz will only see his draft stock rise.

In SB Nation's latest NFL Mock Draft, Ryan Van Bibber had him being picked at No. 19 by the Chicago Bears, a team in serious need of offensive linemen. The Tennessee Titans, who are the next pick, are also believed to be looking for an interior lineman, so he could be a nice fit there as well.
