Free agency begins on March 13, with NFL teams already hard at work on trying to shore up their rosters for next year and retain the services of their desired players already under team control. There are a couple of moves that the San Diego Chargers will have to make a decision on before then.
Vincent Jackson, Marcus McNeill May Not Return To Chargers
The San Diego Chargers are expected to make some significant moves this offseason. To that end, they may be parting ways with wide receiver Vincent Jackson and left tackle Marcus McNeill.

Jason La Confora stopped by NFL Total Access recently to discuss, among other free agent news, whether wide receiver Vincent Jackson is likely to remain in San Diego. La Canfora stated that he "doesn't see any way" that Jackson will return to the Chargers in 2012. Since the Chargers will not utilize the franchise tag, La Canfora observed that there is just too much money and too much demand on the open market for wide receivers this offseason for Jackson to want to remain in Southern California. Other teams that La Confora suggested might target the wideout included the St. Louis Rams, the San Francisco 49ers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune ran an article on Tuesday discussing the options for the Chargers in the offseason. They are presently have about $10-$15 million to operate with under the salary cap this year, as opposed to about $2.1 million prior to the 2011 season. They're expected to free up even more money by waiving left tackle Marcus McNeill. Here's Acee's take:
For one, they will likely clear the books of $10 million by waiving left tackle Marcus McNeill. McNeill has to be cleared by a team doctor by the third day of the new league year, which begins March 13, or his 2012 salary is not guaranteed. McNeill is not expected to get a clean bill of health from the Chargers.
With plenty of room to operate under the salary cap before next season kicks off, the Chargers will certainly look to field a much stronger team in 2012.
