The FA Cup takes center stage in England mid-week, with four third round replays seeing Premier League competition try to avoid elimination at the hands of lower division foes. While some would argue pushing their opposition this far is an accomplishment for those underdogs, at least one Cinderella will look to prolong her stay at the ball.
FA Cup Replays: Manchester City, Wolves, Stoke Try To Avoid Further Third Round Slips
In recent years, Cardiff City has become accustomed to the Cinderella designation, one that started with 2008's FA Cup final. A week-and-a-half ago, the Welsh side was able to get a draw at the Britannia, a notoriously tough place to play. Today, the Bluebirds welcome Stoke City to Wales in a match they'll expect to win.
Also on today's fixture list are ties between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Doncaster Rovers (and the Molineux) as well as the return engagement between Leicester City and Manchester City. One weekend past, Leicester scored in the first minute and found a second half equalizer to force a replay after the 2-2 result at Walkers Stadium. Today, manager Sven Goran Eriksson makes his return to Eastlands, where he guided City to a surprised ninth place finish in 2007-08 before being dismissed.
Tomorrow, the replay garnering the most attention - Leeds United versus Arsenal - will take place at Elland Road, with Leeds hoping to pull off a third round shocker for the second straight tournament. Until then, we have three more chances for Cinderella to stay at the dance, with SB Nation Soccer periodically updating as the dance goes on.
