Tiger Woods To Return To Torrey Pines For Farmer’s Insurance Open

Tiger Woods is returning to San Diego’s Torrey Pines for next week’s 2011 Farmer’s Insurance Open. He hasn’t played the course since his 2008 U.S. Open win, which featured his famous playoff with Rocco Mediate and some of Woods’ most memorable putting. This is the 2011 PGA Tour debut for the world’s No. 2 golfer.

No. 4 Phil Mickelson will also make his PGA Tour debut after also playing in the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, which is pretty big news of course, but there’s only one Tiger here. Mickelson has won this event three times to Woods’ six.

Woods missed the 2009 Farmers event due to knee surgery and 2010’s due to some off-course distractions you may have heard about. Prior to his hiatus from Torrey Pines, Woods won three straight events on the course.

In the past 12 years, this event has gone to someone besides Woods or Mickelson only four times.
