Frank Lampard Limps Out Of Training With Calf Injury, But Chelsea Assure Us It’s Minor

After Frank Lampard limped out of training with a calf injury, Chelsea were quick to reassure the public that the midfielder would be fit for Monday's match at Bolton Wanderers. According to the Blues' website, today's scan revealed no major problems - but how much can Chelsea supporters trust the word of their club? After all, this is the same team that, earlier this season, repeatedly told the press that Lampard would "be fit next week." Instead, he was out for three months with a hernia and groin injury.

With the Blues just barely holding on to a Champions League spot, Chelsea must be desperate to put Lampard on the field. The team may still look a shadow of their double-winning selves, but they’ve looked less frail since he returned to the pitch. But between Lampard’s desperation for fitness (it was he who pushed himself in training while recovering from the hernia, thus leading to further groin injury) and the club’s desire to have him play, this short-term vision just might be leading to further long-term problems.
