Blackburn Rovers have extended the contract of manager Steve Kean. Originally brought on as a caretaker in place of the fired Sam Allardyce, Kean had been on a contract lasting through the end of the season. Today, Rovers have affirmed Kean's place with the club, signing him to a deal through the summer of 2013, according to the club's website.
Blackburn Reward Steve Kean With Deal Through Summer 2013
Kean took over for Allardyce in December and has since led Rovers to three wins in seven league matches. While many questioned the dismissal of Allardyce (thought to have managed well in Lancashire), Kean has maintained Blackburn’s mid-table spot in the English Premier League.
As told to Blackburn’s website, Kean hopes to reward Rovers’ faith:
”I am delighted to commit my future to Rovers at the start of what I see as a massively exciting new era for the club.
”The owners have shown great faith in me and I will do all I can to repay them.
“This is a great opportunity for me and I intend to grasp it with both hands.”
Blackburn ownership was eager to establish stability at the club, according to Venky’s chairperson Anuradha Desai:
"We have great confidence in Steve, someone who impresses us with his work ethic, enthusiasm, positivity and football philosophy," she said.
"We feel that the playing squad is in very safe and capable hands and we look forward to working with him.
"Stability is very important to us and this contract is further evidence of our desire to achieve such stability at the club."
Blackburn currently sit 11th in the Premier League ahead of this weekend's match against visiting West Bromwich Albion. Still alive in the FA Cup, Rovers will take on Aston Villa at Villa Park in fourth round action next weekend.
