UCLA offensive coordinator Norm Chow came back to Los Angeles in 2008 to be Rick Neuheisel’s offensive guru and mold the Bruins into the powerhouse he coordinated at crosstown rival USC under Pete Carroll. That didn’t happen, and now Chow is reportedly leaving Westwood — for Salt Lake City.
Report: UCLA Parts Ways With Norm Chow, Who Will Join Utah
The Los Angeles Times’ Chris Foster is all over this story, tweeting out a bunch of information on both Chow and the Bruins:
Norm Chow is out as a UCLA assistant. he will be named off coordinator at Utah, a person in UCLA’s athletic department said.
UCLA hirers Mike Johnson as offensive coordiantor, meanwhile, Randy shannon is being interviewed for def coord job today
Randy Shannon’s interview for the defensive coordiantor job at UCLA will be Sunday.
Chow’s representatives and UCLA are working out a buyout on his two-year, $1-million contract extension.
Foster also explains in a blog post that Chow’s been on thin ice since Neuheisel refused to commit to his offensive coordinator returning in a November news conference.
Moving to Utah would make this Chow’s second stint with a rival of a longtime employer. Before Chow built the USC machine, he was an offensive coordinator at Utah’s rival, Brigham Young.
