Jimmie Johnson was named the recipient of the Richard Petty Driver of the Year award on Sunday afternoon at the National Motorsports Press Association convention.

↵Johnson’s trophy was his fifth, though he hasn’t won the award in each year of his Sprint Cup championship run.

In 2008, the NMPA named Carl Edwards as its driver of the year. Johnson was also voted the winner in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2009.

Johnson wasn’t on hand to accept his award on Sunday, but sent a pre-recorded video message. Fans might be familiar with the award from seeing Johnson at last year’s ceremony on the HBO 24/7 series.
