Bruins’ Marc Savard Out Indefinitely With Another Concussion

It's a widely known medical fact that once you suffer one concussion, you become more susceptible to more of them. For Marc Savard of the Boston Bruins, this isn't just trivia. It's a daily fact of life that ultimately could affect the rest of his hockey career.

Savard took an awkward hit into the boards in Boston’s game Saturday night in Colorado, and late Monday we learned that he’s been diagnosed with a concussion. He’s out of the Bruins lineup indefinitely.

As he attempted to stand up from his knees after the hit, he fell backwards into the boards, grabbing his head. He left the game and did not return. Here’s the video:

Savard first suffered concussion problems back in March of last year after a nasty hit from Pittsburgh's Matt Cooke. That hit sparked changes to NHL rules regarding blindside hits that target the head, but the new rules obviously came too late for Savard.

He made a surprise return to the Bruins' lineup in time for the team's second round series against the Philadelphia Flyers, where he scored the game-winning overtime goal in Game 1. He admitted during the offseason, though, that his return was premature. He would miss the first 23 games of the current season before returning in early December.
