We haven't even hit the All-Star Break, but tonight at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, the Flyers and Montreal Canadiens will face off for the final time on the year. That is, of course, unless the meet in the playoffs again.
Canadiens Vs. Flyers: Eastern Rivals Battle For Final Time This Season
That's looking ahead though, and we should be focused on this meeting tonight. The Flyers enter as the NHL's best team, tied with the Vancouver Canucks for that mark. They can eclipse the 70 point mark with a win tonight, and that would put them close to their pace for their second-best season ever.
So to say the Habs, who have lost two of three to Philadelphia this season, have a challenge on their hands would be an understatement. Chris Pronger is back on the Flyers blueline, Sergei Bobrovsky is back to his impressive October form and it seems like no matter who is on the ice for the, they can put the puck in the net.
But while the Flyers are a smoldering 9-2-0 in their last eleven, the Canadiens are an impressive 3-0-2 in their last five. Nothing to sneeze at. They do it mostly thanks to solid defense and goaltending, allowing only 2.39 goals per game, good for sixth in the NHL.
These two teams love to mix it up physically when they meet, and nothing different should be expected tonight. P.K. Subban is hated by the Flyers, thanks in part to Mike Richards' comments about him earlier in the season, and just about all of the Flyers are hated by the Canadiens. It makes for entertaining hockey.
