The Deutsche Fußball Liga released its annual economic report on Wednesday, a document that announcing increasing revenues for German’s top two divisions amidst increasing (if still relatively mild) losses. Summarized at FourFourTwo, the report revealed turnover of €2.083 billion for the 2009-10 season, record revenues only slightly tempered by €103 million in losses, the highest figure since 2003.
German Bundesliga Announces Record Turnover, Eclipsing 2 Billion Euros Amidst Increasing Losses
As would be expected, the clubs in the first division account for a predominant part of both figures. Of the record turnover, €1.7 billion comes from the 18 clubs that make up the Bundesliga. Those clubs are also responsible for €78 million of the league’s debts, with the DFL conceding three (unnamed) clubs make up 93 percent of that figure.
Since the 2006-07 season, the Germany league's experienced in 21.5 percent increase in turnover, a figure fueled by having the highest attended league in the world. With an average attendance of 42,000, the Bundesliga is the best attended first division in the world.
