Cal GK David Bingham Will Be Allocated Via Weighted Lottery Today

Not content with a 10-player Generation Adidas class, MLS added one more name when Cal goalkeeper David Bingham was made the 11th player. Now, he’ll be allocated via weighted lottery on Tuesday at 3 p.m., Eastern. The lottery system is reserved for players who have never signed a professional contract and have signed after the SuperDraft.

The New England Revolution will the best chance of winning Bingham's rights (23.6 percent), followed by Toronto FC (17.9 percent), the Chicago Fire (15.3 percent) and the Seattle Sounders (10.8 percent). None of those teams have a glaring need for a goalkeeper, leading many to speculate that his rights may just become trade bait.

The San Jose Earthquakes, the team Bingham grew up cheering for, could probably use a quality back-up to Jon Busch. The Quakes have a 8.8 percent chance of winning the lottery.

DC United, Sporting Kansas City, Philadelphia Union, Houston Dynamo and Chivas USA elected not to participate in the lottery. The percentage for winning the lottery is based on last year's finish, with the Vancouver Whitecaps (.2 percent) and Portland Timbers (.6 percent) having the least chance. The lottery's winner will be pushed to the bottom of the next lottery.
