It’s the question on every recruitnik’s mind, once that “When is National Signing Day?” one is resolved: which teams will win the college football recruiting tussles this year that will translate into conference championships and BCS National Championship Game appearances in the future?
National Signing Day: Which College Football Recruiting Powerhouses Will Bring In 2011 Top Classes?
To the first, in case you didn’t know: 2011 National Signing Day is next Wednesday, February 2, taking place on the customary first Wednesday in February date. On that glorious Wednesday, high school students will prop up the dying fax industry by sending Letters of Intent to schools and smile broadly at cameras while playing team hat roulette — you may have heard of the “hat dance,” which is the same thing.
Teams expected to make huge splashes with top five classes on National Signing Day 2011 include Texas, which has the state of Texas locked down despite the departure of Will Muschamp to Florida and the gutting of Mack Brown’s staff; Florida State, resurgent in the talent-rich Sunshine State after a good year in Jimbo Fisher’s first season; Alabama, which continues its strong recruiting under Nick Saban; LSU, which should rake in a typically impressive haul of talent; and USC, which has weathered NCAA sanctions with some relentless recruiting by Lane Kiffin and his staff.
Of course, not every recruit will have an announcement about his commitment on National Signing Day. Some highly-coveted players, like Ray Drew — a Georgia defensive end and licensed minister who calls himself the Pastor of the Pass Rush — will announce earlier or later than National Signing Day.
But we’ll have comprehensive coverage of all the ups and downs of the final push in recruiting in this StoryStream, including national updates and reactions from team blogs.
